Start the week with a Story Starter

Brainstorming - have your child, special someone, co-worker, etc. to say the first word they think of...write it down and start thinking of things that go with that word until you can find an idea to write about. You can ask 5 different people for one word each and put them together, then brainstorm on how you can tie those 5 words together...Just in case you don't want to bother anyone, I have a list of words for you to choose from:

spider - leaves - cup - feathers - cookies
jewelry - baseball - painting - blue - closet
boxes - beds - telephone - pigs - lights

Webbing - start with an idea (maybe go through your little idea drawer or journal, etc.) - pull a phrase, or idea from your stack. Write this idea down in the middle of a piece of paper and circle it - then start writing down the first things you think of - every time you get something that you think will go (or will make for an interesting book idea) with the idea in the middle of the page, circle it and draw a line to the idea in the middle of the page...set a timer or just keep going until you have your "outline" of a new story...

Freewriting - take a sentence from a book/magazine, write it down, set the timer for 10 or 15 minutes...and then write the story for that sentence that you think would work. Don't think about it! Just start writing until your timer "dings" and then see what you have...if you are on a roll, keep going and don't worry about the timer! The idea is to write...don't edit, don't check for misspelled words...just write...Here is a couple of sentence starters to help you get started...

We have a glass right here for you.

Can I have a hug?

The leaves are blowing in the wind.

This is getting weird.

Hope these ideas help you with your writing (or your writer's block)...

Hugs...
