Has your main character been acting strange when he/she is around another character in their story? Is your main character usually a pretty nice person but then this other character shows up and suddenly you can't get your main character to do what you want him/her to do? Have you ever wondered why this is...
Why not ask you MC some questions...you may just find out a few things that will add a whole new twist in your story...that you didn't know would be there...
Example:
If you MC is having a problem with the neighbor...maybe after you do a little digging, you find out that the neighbor use to date your MC's boy/girlfriend when they were in high school...
But my MC is a child, you say...Okay, what if the neighbor child belongs to someone who use to date your MC's parent...and the neighbor child always got your MC into trouble...or the neighbor child's parent is the one who broke up your MC's parents marriage...?
Or what if you have a very outgoing, talkative MC but when the neighbor is around, your MC is very quiet and awkward...could it be the neighbor was a past babysitter who was mean to your MC? Or a bully from another school your MC may have gone to?
Somehow, someway this other character has been in your MC's past and your MC isn't happy that they are sharing the same space now...
The point of this exercise is to find out why your MC won't work with another character in your story...once you find out what hidden problem your MC has with this other character, you may just find your story changing directions, having a totally different twist then you first thought and you might just find that ending to your story that has been staying out of arms reach is now coming to a close...
So what deep, hidden problem does your MC have with another character in your story...

Very interesting. This gives me a lot to think about. For one, it makes me realize I need to start working on SOMETHING new! :)
My Dilly books are about a rat who loves sour pickles. In the second book, he searches from A to Z to find a new friend. Amazing how it takes him 26 tries to finally find someone to get along with.
Interview ones MC is often a very good way to find out who they are and why they behave the way they do.
Another good look into the character!
I like this question a lot. I think my MC might hate his best friend but be afraid to leave him for fear of having nobody with whom to hang out...
