Tuesday's Living Green Tips and me!

Okay, I'm not sure who started this senior picture blog challenge, but...here goes...

This is the pic that is in the yearbook...

And this is the "fun" pic...this is not, however, the fun pic that I was looking for...the one I wanted to post was a much better pic...but I couldn't find that one, so this is the one I found...To be that thin again...sigh...

Now that the bad stuff is done, here is the good stuff...saving the earth! grin...

With NaNo coming up in a week and tomorrow being the big Blogapalooza, (if you don't know what the blogapalooza is all about, check it out...today is y0ur last chance to join in the fun) I thought this weeks Living Green Tips should be something simple...

Back to the basics of Living Green :

  1. When you brush your teeth, turn off the water. Don't let the water keep running, this is wasteful...fill up a cup with water, dip your toothbrush in the water when you need a little more "lather"
  2. Make sure you know what you want before you open the refrigerator door...keeping the door open while you search, wastes electricity.
  3. Turn off the lights when you leave a room...
  4. Use an energy saving bulb in all light fixtures/lamps, etc. If you want to start out slow, then put the energy saving bulbs in the fixtures/lamps that you use the most.
  5. Don't waste food. Plan your meals. Eat leftovers. Add more, mix others and turn leftovers into a brand new meal.
  6. Unplug items you aren't using...VCR's, DVD's, Microwaves, etc. keep using electricity even when they aren't in use...what do you think is keeping that time correct...
  7. Plug items in to a surge protector so all you have to do is flip off one switch when you are ready to go to bed or leave for the day...
  8. Crockpot cook whenever you can. It saves electricity, doesn't make your house hot in the summer and dinner is ready for you when you come home...
  9. Plan your trips...make one organized trip and you will save not only save gas, but you will be saving the world!
  10. Bike to work or carpool to save gas...
  11. Do larger loads of laundry to save water...and wash in cold water! Use the extended spin on your washer...the more water your washer can spin out of your clothes, the less time it will take to dry them...
  12. Keep your electric 2-3 degrees higher in the summer and lower in the winter...you won't notice the difference very much, but your electric bill will...
Hope these simple tips remind you of some very easy ways to save the planet...Hugs...

Yeah, my washer stays on cold all year, and my mother in law constantly gives me a hard time about it. Now I shall refer her to your blog and tell her that I've got backup for my cold water ways. :)

Great pictures, Brenda! I remember my friends having fun pics taken like that where they were looking out a barn window or something. I just got the funky chair that felt like it was going to fall over. Nice pics!

Great tips too. I tried to do the cold water thing for awhile, but eventually the clothes stopped getting clean, even with cold water detergent. I guess maybe if you rotated it might be better. Love the crock-pot thing in the summer because like you said, it doesn't heat up the house like the oven. We've even taken our CP with us camping to places like Yellowstone. Put the food in before we leave, spend all day sightseeing, and then come back to our trailer to a hot meal. It's perfect!

Great pics!

We've always used cold water to do the laundry. Clothes can get clean if you learn how to use the right amount of clorox! :) If you can hang your clothes out on the line and not use a drier that helps too. There's nothing beats the smell of sun-dried sheets. IMHO.

What cute pictures! I had that exact same hairstyle - sprayed with plenty of Sun-In :)

Great tips, too. It's hard to keep the kids from opening the fridge just to browse...

Cool pix. We didn't have the "fun poses" in my day. (If this were Verla's board I'd insert the old guy smiley. :)) Great tips. I'm also a big advocate of cold-water laundry and the crock pot.
