This time of the year everyone is out shopping for their loved ones...a new sweater, toy, power tool, etc. but we always seem to forget some very important people during this time...our characters...
Why not do a little shopping for your characters...Does your main character have an important date with the love of her life...she's going to need an outfit, so do a web search of clothing stores, find the style your character will like and then change the color around (most sites give you different color choices, click on the color and the outfit will change to that color) until you find the color that will look best on your character...
Is your story about teddy bears? Look up Teddy Bear clothes you might be surprised at how many outfits are out there...
Does your main character love butterflies well what about some butterfly jewelry?
How will shopping for your characters help? What if your MC and her mom have a strained relationship, but her mom knows how important the prom is, so she sobers up to help her daughter buy the dress of her dream...or one sister to another...one who gets everything decides to finally help her tomboy sister out...
A young MC might be sick, so her parents find pj's to match for their daughter and her teddy bear...
Your MC needs to buy something special for the woman of his dreams...she likes butterflies...so he finds just the right gift for her...
Ideas and solutions can be found everywhere for your stories...and some are just a click away...

It's a good idea, but my character would shop at Hot Topic, and with all the silly t-shirts, it's dangerous for me to go in there.
