With the holidays come holiday parties and if you are like me, you never know what to take. I actually have a party to go to on Saturday and I was telling Hazel that I didn't know what to bring, so Hazel being Hazel, she jumped to the rescue...
Hazel has given me some wonderful appetizers, dips, etc. that are so easy. I just know people will finally ask me to bring more than just the drinks after this...grin...
Bacon Cheese Dip
Ingredients
16 slices bacon, diced, fried and drained
2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, softened and cubed
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup half-and-half
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried minced onion
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
dash hot sauce
Preparation
Put all ingredients in the Crock Pot and cook on low, stirring occasionally until cheese melts, about 1 hour. Taste and adjust seasonings, add bacon, and keep on low to serve.
Notes
Serve with cubed or sliced French bread.
Barbecued Meatballs
Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup bread crumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 packages onion soup mix
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 eggs
Sauce:
2 onions, chopped
2 cans tomato paste (12 ounces total)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
1/2 cup beef broth
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons dry mustard
Preparation
Combine first 6 ingredients and mix well. Shape into meatballs and brown in a skillet with 1 tablespoon of oil. Drain on paper towels. Add all sauce ingredients to Crock Pot and stir well. Add meatballs and cook, covered, on low for 5 to 6 hours (high for 2 to 3). Serve from the Crock Pot.
Notes
Makes about 60 meatballs.
Little Smokies
Ingredients
2 packages Cocktail wieners
1 Medium bottle chili sauce
1 Medium jar grape jelly
Preparation
Combine in Crock Pot and cook on low 6 to 8 hours.
Chicken Wings In BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
3 pounds chicken wings (16 wings)
salt and pepper to taste
1 1/2 cups any variety barbecue sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 teaspoons prepared mustard or spicy mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco to taste, optional
Preparation
Rinse chicken and pat dry. Cut off and discard wing tips. Cut each wing at joint to make two sections. Sprinkle wing parts with salt and pepper. Place wings on a broiler pan. Broil 4-5 inches from the heat for 20 minutes, 10 minutes for each side or until chicken is brown. Transfer chicken to slow cooker/Crock Pot. For sauce, combine barbecue sauce, honey, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and if more heat is desired...Tabasco to taste in a small mixing bowl. Pour over chicken wings. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on High 2 -2 1/2 hours.
Notes
Serve directly from slow cooker/Crock Pot. Makes about 32 appetizers.
Stuffed Green Peppers
Ingredients
1 package (10 oz) frozen corn kernels
1 can (15 oz) red kidney beans drained and rinsed
1 can ( 14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1/4 cup salsa
1/4 cup chopped onions
1 1/2 cups cooked rice
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 cups shredded reduced fat Cheddar cheese, divided
6 green peppers. tops removed & seeded
Preparation
Combine all ingredients, except 1/4 cup cheese and green peppers. Stuff peppers. Arrange peppers in Crock Pot. Cover, cook on low 6 - 8 hours (high 3 - 4 hours) Sprinkle with 1/4 cup cheese during the last 30 minutes.
